Sassy Cents is all about common sense and money. I live to budget. I love to budget. I was encouraged by my husband to put my budget tactics out in the blogosphere in an effort to help others.

Spending and debt are at an all time high. Money management is no longer being taught to our children in schools. If we aren’t proactive about our financial situation who will be? Simple changes are all that needed to start making a difference in our lives.

My hope is that some of my quirky, anal tactics will be of help to someone else out there.

Background

My first lesson in money management happened when I was about 11. My brother and I spent some time with my grandmother. We were given cash to cover our expenses. My grandmother is from the depression, so she made sure the money 1) stayed in the candy dish on the counter, 2) I kept all of the receipts when we used the money and 3) accounted for all of the money each time we used any. Essentially I balanced the receipts and the cash left to the cash we started with. I truly hated the exercise and did not have a clue what the purpose was.  What happened was a financial lesson that has lasted through my life.

I have since spent my life working in a financial capacity of one sort or another, all of it revolving around auditing or balancing money.

By the way, I am not a CPA or financial guru professional wizard.  All of my opinions are just that. If you take anything I say to heart and use it in your own budgeting world, I am not responsible for anything that happens good, bad or ugly.
